There are writings about the Kuruaya of Brazil in the seventeenth century. They have had problems with raiders in the past and they were almost extinct in the 1960s.

The Kuruaya live in Altamira and some live in a village called Cashew. Agriculture is a main work with them. They cultivate fruit trees such as mangos and banana. They also plant cocoa and beans and use herbs such as ginger. They hunt deer and other animals and fish too.

Marriage for the Kuruaya is usually among cousins or with those who are not Indians. Power is with the leaders and chiefs with the chiefs having the final say if it is needed. They speak Portuguese and Kuruaya and practice an ethnic religion.

These days the Kuruaya live in the village and the city looking to have the needs of their people met.

Pray that the Brazilian government will allow the evangelization of the small tribes.
Pray that the chiefs and leaders among the Kuruaya will come to Jesus Christ and lead the others to salvation too.
